# KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages)

**Definition.** KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages) is the standard page Amazon uses to count how much of an enrolled book subscribers to Kindle+, formerly Kindle Unlimited, have read or listened to. It is calculated with standard formatting settings, and authors are paid from the KDP Select Global Fund by their share of all KENP.

## How it works

KDP calculates KENP with standard formatting settings, such as a typical typeface, line height and spacing, so the count is the same whatever device or font size a reader uses. Counting runs from the Start Reading Location, which Amazon typically sets at chapter 1, to the end of the book, and images, charts and graphs count toward it. You are credited only for pages a subscriber reads or listens to for the first time, and KDP credits at most 3,000 KENP per title per customer. Each month KDP sets the size of the Global Fund, and every author's payment follows their share of the total.

## An example

A subscriber borrows your book, reads to the halfway point, then stops. The KENP they turned are added to your monthly total. If they return next month and reread the opening chapters, or listen to them in the audiobook, nothing more is credited for those pages; only pages reached for the first time count, in either format. Your report's KENP figure for a month can still change until it is finalized, which KDP says happens near the 15th of the following month.

## Common mistakes

Expecting KENP to match the print page count: it is measured with standard ebook settings, not your paperback's trim and type. Adding front matter to raise the count, when counting starts at the Start Reading Location. And rewarding reads in any way: KDP forbids offering Kindle+ customers money, gift certificates, bonus content, contest entries or discounts to read your book.

## Questions

**How much does one KENP pay?** There is no fixed rate. KDP sets the size of the KDP Select Global Fund each month, and each author is paid their share of the fund in proportion to their share of all pages read or listened to.

**Where can I see my pages read?** In your KDP reports. KDP's KENP report shows Kindle+ reading and listening, and you can filter it by title, marketplace and format.
