# Kindle+ (formerly Kindle Unlimited)

**Definition.** Kindle+ is Amazon's subscription, called Kindle Unlimited until October 2026: readers pay a monthly fee to read, and in the US listen to, as many enrolled Kindle books as they like. A book is in it only while enrolled in KDP Select, and its author is paid from the KDP Select Global Fund for pages read rather than copies sold.

## How it works

Enrolling an ebook in KDP Select puts it in Kindle+ automatically, and canceling the enrollment takes it out. Subscribers don't need Amazon Prime, and they see a Kindle+ badge next to enrolled books. The book stays on sale as normal, so buyers still pay the list price and you receive your usual ebook royalty for those copies. Subscriber reads are paid separately, from the monthly Global Fund, in proportion to the pages read or listened to for the first time. Audiobooks in Kindle+ are offered in the US only, and an ebook's virtual-voice audiobook is enrolled with it. Authors established in France also set a price per page read.

## An example

In one month, the same enrolled ebook can bring in two kinds of royalty. Forty readers buy it outright, and each sale is paid under its royalty option as usual. Meanwhile a few hundred subscribers borrow it, and the pages they read for the first time are added to the author's share of that month's fund. The Prior Months' Royalties report shows the Kindle+ royalties apart from the sales.

## Common mistakes

Searching KDP's help for Kindle Unlimited: its pages now use the Kindle+ name. Looking for a separate Kindle+ sign-up: there isn't one, it comes with KDP Select. Expecting a payment per borrow: a borrow that's never opened adds nothing, because payment follows pages read. And forgetting the cost of entry, which is exclusivity: while enrolled, the ebook can't be sold in any other store or from your own site.

## Questions

**Is Kindle+ the same as Kindle Unlimited?** Yes. Amazon renamed Kindle Unlimited to Kindle+ in October 2026 and added audiobooks to it in the US. Enrollment still runs through KDP Select, and KDP's help pages now use the new name.

**Do Kindle+ readers have to be Prime members?** No. KDP's help page says customers don't have to be Amazon Prime members to subscribe to Kindle+.

**Can people still buy my book if it's in Kindle+?** Yes. KDP says enrollment doesn't change how the book is sold on Amazon, so those sales are paid under your royalty option as before. Subscriber reads are paid on top, from the Global Fund.
