# How to prepare a coloring book for KDP

Review an AI coloring book's scene plan, interior, cover and printed proof, with links to Amazon's current publishing requirements.

## 1. Specify a consistent book

Choose the intended reader, trim size, drawing complexity and whether characters recur. Write a scene list with enough variety that pages do not feel like minor variations of the same drawing. Avoid branded characters or other material you do not have rights to use.

## 2. Review art and layout separately

- Inspect each drawing for stray marks, awkward joins and spaces too small to color.
- Check character appearance across pages rather than only looking at thumbnails.
- Inspect margins, page order, caption placement and blank backs in the interior PDF.
- Check the cover wrap against the final interior page count, trim and paper choice.

## 3. Estimate printing costs using the finished file

Printing cost depends on specifications, including page count and trim. As checked in Amazon's US black-and-white paperback table, a 120-page large-trim interior costs $3.04 per copy to print. Your royalty also depends on the applicable marketplace and royalty tier; it is not the same calculation as an ebook royalty.

## 4. Disclose, upload and proof

KDP distinguishes AI-generated content from AI-assisted editing and asks you to disclose generated images. Complete those questions accurately when uploading your files. Review the online preview and a physical proof for cropping, contrast and the experience of actually coloring a page.

Correct the source project, re-export and inspect the revised files before publishing. Software-generated files do not remove the platform's review or your responsibility for content quality.
