# Add SuperEbook to Devin Desktop. The app that used to be Windsurf.

Windsurf is now Devin Desktop, and Devin Local is its agent. Add SuperEbook’s MCP server to Devin Local and it can plan and write books in your SuperEbook account, from notes in your project or anything you paste.

## Before you start

- **A SuperEbook account with Starter, Pro or any credit pack.** SuperEbook’s Free plan doesn’t include connecting apps: [see plans](https://www.superebook.ai/pricing.md).
- **One agent.** Windsurf became Devin Desktop on 2 June 2026, and since version 3.9.19 (8 September 2026) Devin Local is its only agent: Cascade has been removed. These steps are for Devin Local.
- **On a team plan**, an admin can allowlist the MCP servers members may use. If one is set and SuperEbook isn’t on it, the server is blocked: ask your admin to add it.

## Server URL

`https://www.superebook.ai/api/mcp`

## Add it with an API key

1. Create an API key.

In SuperEbook, open [Settings → Connect apps](https://www.superebook.ai/settings?tab=apps) and choose Create API key. Name it after Devin Desktop, then copy it: you see the whole key only once, and it starts `ebk_live_`. It needs a verified email address.

2. Open your user MCP config file.

`~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json` on macOS and Linux, or `%APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json` on Windows. Create it if it isn’t there. Older versions kept servers in `config.json`; newer ones move them across on their own.

3. Add SuperEbook under mcpServers and save.

Replace `ebk_live_YOUR_KEY` with your key, and keep the www.

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "superebook": {
      "url": "https://www.superebook.ai/api/mcp",
      "transport": "http",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ebk_live_YOUR_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

If you have the `devin` command, one line does the same. `-s user` makes it a server for every project; without it, the command saves the server to `.devin/mcp_config.local.json` in the project you’re in.

```
devin mcp add -s user -H "Authorization: Bearer ebk_live_YOUR_KEY" superebook https://www.superebook.ai/api/mcp
```

## Or sign in from the command line

1. Add the server without a header, then log in.

```
devin mcp add -s user superebook https://www.superebook.ai/api/mcp
devin mcp login superebook
```

2. Allow it on SuperEbook.

A browser window opens on SuperEbook’s page; sign in if it asks. Devin signs in through localhost on your own computer, so the page names the app as it calls itself, “Connect … to SuperEbook?”, with no warning. Choose Allow. Devin keeps the sign-in and refreshes it on its own.

A sign-in made in Claude or another app doesn’t carry over: each app signs in for itself.

Don’t set `oauthResource`: Devin’s default, the server’s own address, is what SuperEbook expects.

## Check it, and approve its tools

1. Find it in Devin Local’s MCP list.

Choose Open customizations from the new-tab menu in an agent space, or right-click a Devin Local session in the agent sidebar. SuperEbook should be listed. If it shows Needs auth, click Authenticate to sign in again.

2. Approve its tools as Devin asks.

Devin Local asks before calling any MCP tool: you can allow one tool, or every tool on the server, for this session or permanently. Keep Write the book (`start_writing`) asking: that prompt is where you agree to the price.

To end the connection on SuperEbook’s side at once, revoke the key or disconnect Devin in [Settings → Connect apps](https://www.superebook.ai/settings?tab=apps).

## Try it

Once it’s connected, ask for a book in plain words. Planning is free, and the app is told to quote the price and wait for your yes before it writes.

- Read the notes in docs/ and use SuperEbook to plan a how-to guide. Show me the outline first.

## If it doesn’t work

| What you see | Code | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| SuperEbook isn’t in Devin Local’s list | | Check the file is ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json (or %APPDATA%\\devin\\mcp_config.json on Windows). If you used devin mcp add without -s user, the server is in the project’s .devin/mcp_config.local.json instead. |
| It shows Needs auth | | The sign-in ran out or was revoked. Click Authenticate, or run devin mcp logout superebook and then devin mcp login superebook. |
| Your team blocks it | | Your team has an MCP allowlist without SuperEbook. Ask an admin to add it. |
| SuperEbook refuses the key | | Check the header reads “Bearer ” and the whole key, that the address has www, and that the key isn’t revoked in Settings. |

For credits, limits and the other messages an app may relay, see [if something goes wrong](https://www.superebook.ai/mcp#troubleshooting).

## Questions

**Is Devin Desktop the same app as Windsurf?** Yes. Windsurf became Devin Desktop on 2 June 2026: the same editor under the Devin name. Its old agent, Cascade, was removed on 8 September 2026, leaving Devin Local.

**Where does Devin Local keep MCP servers?** In ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json for you (%APPDATA%\\devin\\mcp_config.json on Windows), .devin/mcp_config.json for a project you share, and .devin/mcp_config.local.json for a project on your computer only, which git ignores.

**Do I need the devin command?** No. Editing mcp_config.json is enough for an API key. The devin command adds the server for you, and it’s how you sign in with devin mcp login instead of using a key.
