KENP calculator. What page reads pay.

Estimate what Kindle Unlimited page reads earn from your book's length, how many readers open it and how far they get. You supply the per-page rate from your own KDP report, so it's never out of date.

How page-read earnings work

Books enrolled in KDP Select can be borrowed through Kindle Unlimited. Instead of a sale royalty, Amazon pays for the pages subscribers actually read, counted in KENP.

pages read = KENP length × readers × share read
earnings = pages read × rate per page

Worked example. A 250-page book, opened by 100 subscribers who each read 70% of it: 250 × 100 × 0.70 = 17,500 pages read. At an example rate of $0.0045 a page, that comes to about $78.75 for the month.

The rate is the part that moves. Amazon sets a fund each month and divides it across every page read, so the same reading can pay a little more or less from one month to the next. That’s why the calculator asks you for the rate instead of assuming one.

Kindle Edition Normalized Pages: Amazon's measure of a Kindle book's length, used to count the pages a Kindle Unlimited subscriber reads. It isn't your print page count, and it doesn't change with the reader's font size.

For books enrolled in KDP Select, Amazon sets a global fund each month and pays authors a share of it by the pages subscribers read. So the rate per page isn't fixed: it depends on the fund and on how many pages were read in total.

The one in your own KDP reports: it's the most accurate figure for your books, and it changes every month. The starting rate in the calculator is an example, not Amazon's figure.

KDP works it out from your book and shows it with the book in your account; check KDP's help pages if you can't find it. It's usually a little different from a print page count.

No. Page-read payments are for books enrolled in KDP Select. Books sold elsewhere, or not enrolled, earn from sales royalties instead: the Kindle royalty calculator covers those.
