    The Myth of No Time

“I shall alter that when I have a little more time.”

If you have said some version of that sentence this month, you are in good company. Arnold Bennett wrote about it in 1910, in a short book called How to Live on 24 Hours a Day. He asked: “Which of us has not been saying to himself all his life” that he will change things when he has more time? Then he delivered the line that this whole book is built on:

“We never shall have any more time. We have, and we have always had, all the time there is.”

    Executive Summary

    Purpose of this report

“Taylorism” is invoked in operations meetings as shorthand for stopwatches, speed-ups, and distrust of the workforce. This report goes back to the primary text, Frederick Winslow Taylor’s The Principles of Scientific Management (1911), to establish what he actually claimed, how he proposed to support those claims, and which questions his evidence leaves open. It is written for consultants and managers who need to use the term accurately, or decide whether to use it at all.

    Key findings

    1. Taylor separated philosophy from mechanism, and insisted the separation mattered. He wrote that “the mechanism of management must not be mistaken for its essence, or underlying philosophy,” and warned that the same mechanism “will in one case produce disastrous results and in another the most beneficent,” depending on the spirit of those applying it. Most modern usage of “Taylorism” reverses this priority, treating the mechanisms as the whole.

Your source, quoted word for word.

For FTC Endorsements Unpacked, SuperEbook was given one source: the FTC’s Endorsement Guides: What People Are Asking (June 2023). It split it into 36 passages and wrote each chapter from the ones that fit. Here is a sentence of that source, and the paragraph it became on page 12.

You should disclose your relationship to the retailer clearly and conspicuously on your site, so readers can decide how much weight to give your endorsement.

If you recommend a product and get paid when people buy through your link, disclose it. The FTC’s own guidance says to disclose “clearly and conspicuously” so readers can “decide how much weight to give your endorsement.”
