Add SuperEbook to Zed. A remote server, signed in or with a key.
Add SuperEbook’s MCP server to Zed and its Agent Panel can plan and write books in your SuperEbook account, from notes in your project or anything you paste. Sign in with your SuperEbook account, or use an API key on a remote or headless setup.
Server URL
https://www.superebook.ai/api/mcpPaste it exactly as it is, with www.
Before you start
- A SuperEbook account with Starter, Pro or any credit pack. SuperEbook’s Free plan doesn’t include connecting apps: see plans.
- An up-to-date Zed. Signing in to remote MCP servers is a recent addition, so update Zed first.
- To sign in, a browser on the computer running Zed: Zed waits for the answer there. Over SSH or remote development, use an API key.
Add it in Zed
Open MCP Servers in Zed’s AI settings.
Run the
agent: open settingsaction, or open Settings and pick AI in the sidebar, then open MCP Servers.Click Add Server, then Add Remote Server.
Fill in Add Remote MCP Server.
Server Name:
superebook. URL:https://www.superebook.ai/api/mcp, with www. Leave OAuth Client ID empty, so Zed registers itself with SuperEbook.Choose how it signs in.
To sign in with your SuperEbook account, add no headers. To use a key instead, create one in Settings → Connect apps and add a header named Authorization with the value
Bearer ebk_live_YOUR_KEY, your key in place of the placeholder. Not both: any Authorization header turns signing in off.Save. To sign in, click Authenticate.
Sign in to SuperEbook in your browser on the same computer first: Zed waits only two minutes for the answer. Then click Authenticate beside the server. SuperEbook’s page asks “Connect Zed to SuperEbook?”, with no warning, because the app comes back to your own computer. Choose Allow.
Check the dot beside the server.
Green, with the tooltip “Server is active”, means it’s connected.
Or edit the settings file
The dialog writes an entry under context_servers in your settings file, which the zed: open settings file action opens. To sign in, the entry is the address alone:
{
"context_servers": {
"superebook": {
"url": "https://www.superebook.ai/api/mcp"
}
}
}With a key, instead:
{
"context_servers": {
"superebook": {
"url": "https://www.superebook.ai/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ebk_live_YOUR_KEY"
}
}
}
}Tool permissions
Ask in the Agent Panel; naming SuperEbook helps it pick the tools. Zed asks before every tool call by default (agent.tool_permissions.default is "confirm").
If you let tools run without asking, keep Write the book asking: its key in Zed’s per-tool rules is mcp:superebook:start_writing. That prompt is where you agree to the price.
Try it
Once it’s connected, ask for a book in plain words. Planning is free, and the app is told to quote the price and wait for your yes before it writes.
- “Use SuperEbook to plan a lead magnet from the notes in this project.”
- “Turn docs/talk.md into a SuperEbook how-to guide. Show me the chapters before you start.”
- “What would a workbook cost in SuperEbook credits?”
- “Check on my book’s progress.”
If it doesn’t work
- The server shows “Authenticate to connect this server”
- It’s waiting for you to sign in: click Authenticate. Zed shows this when a server without an Authorization header needs a sign-in.
- Zed says “OAuth authorization failed”
- You chose Cancel on SuperEbook’s page, or took longer than two minutes. Sign in to SuperEbook in your browser first, then click Authenticate again.
- The dot isn’t green
- Check the URL has www. With a key, check the header’s value is “Bearer ” and the whole key, and that the key isn’t revoked in Settings.
For credits, limits and the other messages an app may relay, see if something goes wrong.
